Merging Dates into a Multi-Page InDesign Planner Template

Tutorials & Reviews

22 Nov

In this video, I show you how to perform a merge in InDesign to import dates (and other information) from an Excel file. Please note, I assume you have a working knowledge of both InDesign and Excel so I don’t go in depth into how to use either. (Unfortunately, that would be a really, really long video. I would rather make sure you get the part that I had to figure out on my own.)

If you would like more information on creating a basic planner template in InDesign, Maryanne Moll has a video on her channel explaining how: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHaUvSYpW1E&t=1449s

Website tutorials I used when I was trying to figure this out:
https://redokun.com/blog/data-merge-indesign
https://gcostudios.com/how-to-data-merge-in-indesign-cs6-tutorial/

Sample excel file available for download here. The excel file contains an entire year. To use as is, simply update cell C2 with the start date you would like to use, and the entire file should auto-update. Save the file as a tab-delimated .txt file to use in an InDesign merge.

It took me a little bit of time in InDesign, but I It took me a little bit of time in InDesign, but I am now able to print on my @plumpaper planner pages. 💕 I’m so excited to have a preprinted template for my week, and I can change it as needed - even from week to week!

The top two sections are the result of taking the Your Anchored Home class from @anchoredwomen. If your home keeping routines aren’t working for you, I can’t recommend her class enough! (Not sponsored or affiliated, just so relieved to finally have cleaning routines that match my weekly energy levels.)
Trying to get my brain back into real life mode af Trying to get my brain back into real life mode after being on long weekend vacation out of the country for a wedding. ☀️ Starting this morning with my #makselifeplanner to sort out my full week, then on to my #b6stalogy to focus in on today.

I usually try to schedule returns from vacation on Sundays (and not super late, if I can help it) so that I have a gentler re-entry into the new week. But we enjoyed the few extra days, including some time out on a sailboat, so no regrets - even if my brain’s a little discombobulated today with what day it is. 😂 ⛵️

It’s another New Year’s Eve life admin day! Al It’s another New Year’s Eve life admin day! All the little things that I’ve been putting off that are honestly mostly just 5-15 minute tasks. I just haven’t found the motivation to do them or they weren’t high enough on my to do list for the last year or so. ✅✅✅ Getting them done! #lifeadminday list in my #b6stalogy
I really shouldn’t flip through old planners. Bu I really shouldn’t flip through old planners. But I’m glad I did. I think the #b6stalogy is what has been missing from my planner lineup as a place to just let loose with all the deco as a creative outlet. (Swipe to see a start to January 2023 layers.)

The hard: the last time I really set up my B6 was in early 2020, and it tapered off as the pandemic really hit. Though I’m glad I have those memories and feelings preserved, despite the lingering feels that reading through them brings up. I also set up the last few months of 2021 to see if it was something I wanted to continue - 2022 got a few pages of deco in a new book, but nothing else. This is what I’m moving into now. Waste not, want not. As before, digging into planner stash and printables, plus making a few things in Canva to print.
Continuing on with a walkthrough of my 2023 planne Continuing on with a walkthrough of my 2023 planners, next up we have my #hobonichiweeks mega in tropical yellow that I'm using as my work planner. The video is now live on my YouTube channel! I often get questions about what I'm using as a task manager, and I've recently changed to a new program - I talk a bit about that change and why as well! (Link in bio!)

Sunday reset for next week. Personal EDC and #hobo Sunday reset for next week. Personal EDC and #hobonichiweeks, my #frankenplanner (#plumpaperplanner and #happyplanner), and my work Hobonichi weeks in its new Moterm cover. I think I’ve binged too many goal setting and setup videos in the last few weeks because my brain is a little scrambled. 🫠 But I haven’t changed too much yet. Current change thoughts are mostly around consolidation in the frankenplanner. 🤔 Though I may have ordered a Commonplace planner from @sterlingink in the last chance planner release. 🫣
